Prague, April 8 (CTK) – Czech building societies granted loans worth Kc14bn in Q1 this year, up 4 percent year-on-year, according to data from building societies CTK has obtained.

„After last year´s slight decrease the revival of loans is welcomed but there is no reason to overestimate it extremely. I personally view this slight growth as a manifestation of stability,“ Czech Building Societies Association (ACSS) secretary Jiri Sedivy told CTK. „The first quarter confirms ACSS´s forecast for 2010 that does not reckon with major changes in any of the monitored indicators in the home-building savings sector,“ Sedivy said.

Although the number of newly signed contracts dropped by 8,600 to 224,000 on the year in Q1, the target amount for new contracts rose by about Kc800m to Kc67.4bn. For full 2009, building societies saw the volume of granted loans fall by 11 percent to Kc66.4bn. They signed around 887,000 contracts, compared with more than one million contracts in 2008.
