The Association of Czech Building and Loan Societies (AČSS) will organize an expert seminar called „EU Legal Regulations Having Effect on Saving with Building and Loan Associations“ in cooperation with the European Federation of Building Societies (EFBS) to be held on April 15 and 16, 2004.

The aim of the seminar is to inform employees of building and loan societies, the professional public and representatives of ministries of the Czech Republic about regulations of the European Union, both already effective and under preparation, related to the issue of saving with building and loan societies. Speeches will be presented by involved experts ? representatives of the European Federation of Building Societies and building and loan societies from Germany and Austria.

The main discussed topics will include the issue of banking law and banking regulation, payment contacts and rights related to customer protection. This field is one of the priorities of the European Commission. The mentioned topics will be discussed not only in respect of valid regulations, but also in the view of the prepared legal acts, which will most likely become a framework for the creation of national laws in the near future. Information about experience of Austrian building and loan societies acquired after the country's accession to the European Union will be present as well.

By organizing the seminar, AČSS meets one of its basic goals, which is to support the idea of saving with building and loan societies and create conditions suitable for the functioning of the system on the Czech market. This activity is intended to create good conditions for financing housing needs of the Czech citizens through the system of saving with building and loan societies. The well-established cooperation with foreign partners is important as well. Naturally, EFBS – a multi-national organization with similar goals as AČSS – is one of the main partners.

EFBS's tasks include promoting interests of its members within the European Union, informing its new members about the course of the European integration and activities of the EU bodies, and supporting and intensifying exchange of information and experience among its members in the field of housing financing and housing policy
